Narcissistic Abuse
Recovery Retreat.

Narcissistic abuse is not just
a difficult relationship. It is trauma.

Prolonged psychological manipulation — gaslighting, coercive control, emotional abuse, constant devaluation — does not just cause distress. It restructures how you see reality, how you see yourself, and how your nervous system responds to closeness. Many survivors emerge not knowing what is real, unable to trust their own perceptions, and questioning whether they were the problem.

This is not weakness. It is the predictable neurological result of sustained psychological manipulation by someone you trusted. Recovery is not about understanding what happened — most survivors understand it intellectually long before they heal from it. It is about undoing what that relationship did to the nervous system, to the self-concept, and to the capacity for safety.

The Aftermath

What narcissistic abuse
leaves behind.

The effects of narcissistic abuse are well-documented and often misdiagnosed as depression, anxiety disorder, or borderline traits. Understanding what is actually happening is the first step to addressing it at the right level.

Cognitive dissonance and confusion

A persistent inability to reconcile what you experienced with the reality being presented to you. Questioning your memory, your perception, your sanity.

Hypervigilance in relationships

Constant scanning for signs of disapproval, withdrawal, or threat. Difficulty relaxing in the presence of others. Walking on eggshells as a default state.

Collapsed sense of self

Months or years of being told who you are — usually unfavourably — can erode your sense of your own identity, preferences, and worth.

Trauma bonding

The intermittent reinforcement cycle of narcissistic relationships creates a neurological attachment that does not dissolve simply because you understand it rationally.

Shame and self-blame

Survivors typically blame themselves. The abuse was designed to produce that outcome. Undoing it requires more than reassurance — it requires working at the level of the nervous system.

Physical symptoms

Chronic fatigue, disrupted sleep, appetite changes, somatic tension, and immune dysfunction are common physical consequences of sustained psychological stress.

Holina Healing narcissistic abuse recovery programme

Understanding the abuse is not
the same as recovering from it.

Most survivors of narcissistic abuse are well-informed. They have read the literature, named the patterns, and understood cognitively what was done to them. What has not changed is how they feel in their body, what happens when someone gets close, and the voice in their head that still sounds like their abuser.

Cognitive insight is not somatic resolution

Knowing what happened does not release the nervous system from its learned state of threat. The body needs different work than the mind.

The trauma bond requires direct work

Trauma bonding is neurological. It does not respond to logic. It requires the kind of relational, somatic, and depth-psychological work that only sustained intensive treatment can provide.

Residential removes the re-activation loop

Returning home daily — to the environment, the contact, the reminders — constantly re-activates the trauma response and competes with any therapeutic progress made in session.

A word on individual work

Our programmes work with individuals — not couples.
